Choose the language of your client messages

See which language your clients' texts use, and change it for your whole account or for a single template.

Written by Steve Lionais

SMS Reminder adds a little text of its own to your client messages, like the line before the confirmation link and the automatic replies when a client texts back. By default, it picks that language from your country. If it isn't the right one, you can see it and change it yourself in a few clicks.

What the language setting covers

The language you choose is used for the text SMS Reminder adds to your messages:

  • The "Confirm or cancel" line before the confirmation link.

  • The status labels added to your Google Calendar appointments (for example, Confirmed or Cancelled).

  • Automatic replies when a client texts back.

  • Dynamic data names shown in the template editor.

Important: Your own message text doesn't change. The words you wrote in your templates, and your sender name, stay exactly as they are. If you switch language, edit your template text to match.

See which language you're using now

  1. Log in to the SMS Reminder web app.

  2. Go to Settings → Other Settings.

  3. Scroll to Client message language.

You'll see the language and why it was picked, for example Automatic (English) and Based on your country (Canada).

You can also see the language when you edit a template, in the note under Messages. Click Change language there to jump straight to this setting.

Change the language for your whole account

  1. Go to Settings → Other Settings → Client message language.

  2. Open the Message language dropdown.

  3. Pick a language: English, Español, Português (Brasil), Deutsch, Français or Italiano.

  4. Check the preview of a confirmation link and an automatic reply.

  5. Click Save changes.

The new language applies to messages sent after you save. Messages already sent stay as they were.

To go back, pick Automatic in the same dropdown and click Save changes.

Give one template its own language

Have clients who speak different languages? Give each template its own language. For example, keep one template in English and set another to Français, then use each one for the right calendar or appointment type.

  1. Go to Settings → Templates.

  2. Click the template you want to change.

  3. Open the Message language dropdown.

  4. Pick a language, or keep Use account language.

  5. Save the template.

Every template starts on Use account language. The Language column on your Templates list shows each template's language at a glance.

Which language is used

For each appointment, SMS Reminder checks in this order:

  1. The template's language, if the template has its own.

  2. The account language you chose.

  3. Automatic, based on your country.

Automatic replies to client texts follow the same order:

  • If you chose a language, for the account or for the template, every reply uses it. The country of the client's phone number doesn't matter.

  • If you're on Automatic, replies follow the country of each client's phone number. When that country's language isn't supported, replies use your automatic language.

If something looks wrong

  • Texts are still in the old language — only messages sent after you saved use the new language. Check that you clicked Save changes.

  • Part of the message is in a different language — that's your own template text. Edit it in Settings → Templates.

  • One appointment uses a different language — its template may have its own language. Check the Language column on your Templates list.

  • A calendar status label is in the old language — it updates the next time that appointment's status changes.

Other Things to Know

  • Your country, default phone country code and date formats don't change. Date formats are under Settings → Calendars → Locale.

  • Changing the account language doesn't change templates that have their own language.

  • Dynamic data names work in any of the six languages, in every account. For example, {date} and {fecha} both fill in.

  • You change this setting in the web app. It applies to all your messages, including appointments added from the Google Calendar add-on.

  • This setting changes your client messages only. It doesn't translate the web app screens.
