Collection: SMS Reminder for Shopify → Troubleshooting

When a product is set up for booking, SMS Reminder replaces the Add to cart button on its product page with a Book Now button. If a product still shows Add to cart, one of the checks below is almost always the reason — work through them in order.

1. Make sure the Book Now button is turned on (most common)

The Book Now button is a theme app embed. If it was never enabled, no product will show it.

  1. In the app's Setup guide, open Enable the "Book Now" button and click Open theme editor.

  2. In the theme editor, open App embeds and turn on SMS Reminder Booking.

  3. Click Save, then click I've enabled it back in the app.

Full steps: Turn on the Book Now button.

2. Link the product to an appointment type

The button only swaps on products that are linked to an appointment type. If a product isn't linked, Shopify leaves it as a normal Add to cart product.

  1. In the app, open Link a booking product to an appointment type (Setup Step 2).

  2. Click Choose product and pick the product.

  3. Under Link it to an appointment type, choose the appointment type, then click Link appointment type.

Already past setup? Use the Actions menu on that product's row in the Appointment types card to link it. Then reload your live product page — the button should read Book Now.

3. Check your live page, not the theme editor

The Book Now button doesn't always render inside Shopify's theme-editor preview. Always confirm on your live product page, the same one customers see, before assuming it isn't working. A hard refresh (Cmd/Ctrl + Shift + R) or a private window rules out cached copies.

4. You edited the product's variants recently

If you renamed a variant, changed its price, or added a new one, Shopify creates a new variant ID and the link to the appointment type can break.

  • Reopen the product's Actions menu in the Appointment types card (or re-open Setup Step 2).

  • Re-select the correct product, then save.

5. Make sure an "Add to Cart" button exists on the page

The app works by replacing your existing Add to cart button. If your theme or a custom template has removed that button from the product page, there may be nothing for the app to swap.

  • Check that the product page still has its standard Add to cart button.

  • If it was removed, add it back in your theme editor, then reload the live page.
